Constable In Court P-A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 16. A policeman who told a “fish story” landed in court charged with false pretences. Constable Geoffrey Garnham’s accusers were his colleagues of the police angling team, the ‘‘Daily Sketch” said. Constable Garnham declared a haul of 11b 2oz at the police angling match at Kirkstead, Lincolnshire. His prize was for joint Second in the team's sweep. But in fact he had caught nothing. He told a Barnsley, Yorkshire. court he had put in the claim “jokingly.” The prosecution said a check of the results sheet a month later showed a deficit of lib 2oz. Constable Garnham was questioned and shared his •‘joke.” The Magistrate. Mr Arthur Jepson, said; “We think you were foolish allowing the joke to turn sour. But we feel, there was no intention to defraud and you will be discharged.”
