ADDINGTON STAND

Contract Next Month

It will be a month before a contract to build the new stand at the Addington racecourse is let. Of 30,000 square feet, the stand will seat 4000. The main public stand it will replace was destroyed by fire on November 10 last year. Built in 1910, it seated about 3000.

The contract will have a clause invoking a penalty payment against the successful tenderer if the stand is not finished in time for the New Zealand Trotting Cup meeting in November next year. There will be an incentive bonus for completing the stand before the date named in the contract. Builders interested in tendering are being invited to call at the office of the architect, Mr C. C. Lamb. The stand will be built in prestressed, precast concrete units, and builders will need to have special equipments crane able to lift units weighing 12 tons is one of the items required. The stand will be 350 ft long and 76ft deep. The stand will be wired for lighting for night trotting and the whole course will also be lit for night meetings. The single-deck stand will have a large mezzanine floor.
