Women’s Hockey WELLINGTON UNLUCKY

Eastern In K Cup Final (From Our Own Reporter) DUNEDIN. Aug. 31. Eastern Southland won the triangular play-off today to meet Otago in tomorrow’s final of the national women's hockey tournament tor the K Cup at Dunedin. In the morning Wellington defeated Auckland, 2-0, but then was beaten. 2-1. by Eastern Southland. Wellington owed its victory over Auckland to superior combination ball control and passing which left the Auckland defence wide open. The Wellington goalkeeper was outstanding. while the two backs were sound B. Watt (left-half) and A. Gordon (centre-half) were the pick of the Wellington halves, while in the forwards the right flank combination of E. Love and H Presswood was effective because of their accurate passing. Heavy rain fell during the lunch break and Wellington played Eastern Southland on a water-logged ground. These conditions made constructive hockey difficult and the tired Wellington team appeared unlucky to lose a game, in which they had a territorial advantage. In a play-off in the minor section. Rangitikei beat Whangarei. 2-0, and will contest the final for the Mills Cup against Southland.
