ASHBURTON COURSE
Big Building Scheme If tenders are satisfactory, work will start on a major building scheme for the Ashburton raccouirse, said the pree-’denit of the Ashburton Trotting Chub (Mr A. J Nicofl) at its annual meeting. “When the work is completed, we believe that we will be able to offer our patrons a racecourse and appointments that will satisfy their every requirement,” he said. The scheme, as outlined last year, incorporates increased seating accommodation in the main stand, enlargement of the public luncheon room, a new public bar and members’ bar on the ground floor and other amenities. “Large entries for our meetings continue to pose a problem as to how to give every owner the ooportun.ify of a start,” said Mr Nieoll. While in many cases a baillot was inevitable, the committee endeavoured to see that it was conducted in the fairest possible manner.
