TIMBER FIRE
Many Flee Homes (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) REDDING (California), August 27. A small brush fire exploded into a "firestorm” today, leapfrogging through timber in quarter-mile jumps and forcing many residents to flee their homes. The flames cover more than 5000 acres. In another nearby area a 6000-acre blaze was reported running wild on a 16-mile front but there was no danger to buildings. Between 800 and 1000 persons were forced to flee from the raging fire. United Press International said. It burned two ranches and several homes to the ground and threatened hundreds of residences. The fire area is located south of Clear Lake, about 80 miles north of San Francisco.
Bandit Killers^— The death roll in Saturday night’s raid by uniformed bandits on a farm near Cali, Western Colombia, rose to 29 when the bodies of five more victims were found about two miles from the farm. — "Bogota, Aug. 28.
