A badly-injured Soviet geologist wrestled with a large bear on the edge of a precipice in the Caucasus Mountains and finally heaved it over. Tass reported. Mr Anatoly Nyrkov was leading a mountain party when the bear lunged at him. Mr Nyrkov fired a shot but only wounded it. The bear seized him. and they swayed on the edge of a cliff before the geologist gave the bear a strong push which sent it over the edge. Mr Nyrkov was taken to hospital with arm and leg injuries.
