Sprint Finish By Indian

A record-breaking victory by the Indian runner, Tarlok Singh, in the final of the 10.000 metres, was the highlight of th* first day of the Asian Games track and field events on Saturday. The turbanned Indian sprinted to the finish line to beat Japan * Taruo Funal In a race which cut 27 sec off the existing Gaines record.
Three gold medals were awarded tn trsek and field events. Japan won gold medals in the discus and hop. step and Jump, and also took two silver and one bronze medals.
Tarworn Jlparan. a 23-year-old Thailand student, scored a narrow victory in the 160 kilometre cycling road race, and Indonesia defeated Malaya in the women's badminton final. South Korean track and field athletes did not show up for events today In which they were entered, and left some heats short of starters.
Japan's two gold medals were won by Koji Sakuria (hop. step and jump) and Shozo Yanagawa (discus).
