Y.M.C.A. Appeal
The need for activities of the sort the Y.M.CA. promotes requires no emphasis at a time when the guidance of youth is recognised as a national problem and obligation. The public are aware that these are difficult times for many young people, largely because the home does not now so generally provide the stability and security it once gave. The Y.M.CA cannot
be a substitute for a good home; but it can and does go a long way towards supplying young people, from "good" and “bad" homes alike, with the essential sense of belonging to a community which is interested in them. Together with activities designed to keep youngsters in good physical condition, a healthy self-reliance is encouraged
by experienced social workers. Some of the organisation’s funds are contributed by regular subscriptions from individuals, businesses, and other organisations. Participants in Y.M.C.A. activities who can do so pay part of their cost; but the Y.M.C.A. caters for many who are not earning. Today’s street appeal is the opportunity of the general public to contribute to a valuable community work. There can be little doubt that the generosity of the public’s response will match the worthiness of the object.
