Jet Fly-Past
There will be a fly-past by four Canberra bombers over Christchurch airport about 12.20 p.m. on Sunday when the King and Queen of Thailand leave the Dominion for Australia. The four aircraft will fly down specially from the Royal New Zealand Air Force station. Ohakea. for the occasion. The fly-past has been timed to take place when King Bhumibol mounts a dais to receive a Royal salute from the R.N.Z.A.F Colour Guard before boarding the Qantas Electra which will fly the Royal party across the Tasman. Royal Welcome The bells of the Christchurch Cathedral will be rung for 30 minutes, from 7 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. today, as a welcome to the King and Queen of Thailand. Originally, before the plans of the Royal couple were changed, the bells were to be rung for 15 minutes yesterday afternoon. Too Much Light A woman living near the Show Grounds has complained to the New Zealand Industries Fair organisers that the searchlight at the fair comes to rest on her house too frequently. She said that the light reflected from the chimney on her house and flickered on the bedroom windows and kept her awake. She said that the light was most annoying and asked that the searchlight be turned away from her home Australian Trips Hundreds of New Zealand secondary school children are travelling to Australia on organised educational tours this year, according to a Tasman Airways official yesterday. During the May school holidays 400 New Zealand children toured Australia and nine tours involving about 250 pupils have been arranged for the present and the Christmas vacation. Some of the parties have left, including one from the Rotorua Girls’ High School. Other bookings had been made by schools in Wanganui, Otaki, Ashburton, Timaru and Woodville. —(P.A.)
