Inter-Provincial Boys’ Match

Canterbury narrowly defeated South Canterbury. 9i-Bi, to win the first boys' inter-provincial golf match to be held in Christchurch. In steady rain at the Harewood Young People’a course yesterday. Canterbury won the foursomes, 4-2. but was beaten. 61-51, by South in the singles. Playing at No. 1 for Canterbury, D. R. Hope returned in excellent 76. and he was closely followed by I. McNish with 77. The top player for South Canterbury, G. W. Irving, also scored well with 79 on his first visit to Harewood. Results (Canterbury names first) were:— Foursomes: Hope and McNish beat Irving and J. Lister. 2 up; C. Stokes and R. S Peate beat I. Beswarlck and M. Whatman, 2 up; B. Tayjor and A. Holland beat R. Ledingham and I. Cuthill, 2 and 1; E. Gough and P. Pask beat M. Usher and R. McManus. 4 and 3: V. Bishop and D Smitl: lost to R. McManus and J. Barnes, 4 and 3; M. Fuller and M Hlgnett lost to A. Martin and G Keeley. 4 and 2.
