J. Beatty, a 27-year-old Californian athlete, ran the fifth fastest mile in history when he clocked 3min 56.35ec tonight. His time was l.teec outside P. G. Snell's world record. Another American, J. Grelle. was second in 3min SB.Bsec, and O. Salonen was third in a Finnish record of 3min 59.Isec.
