To Handle its 38 aircraft. 794,808 passengers and 17,044 tons of freight and mail last year, the National Airways Corporation had a staff of 2185, says the corporation's annual report, tabled in the House of Representatives. The staff included 201 pilots. 127 hostesses. 616 engineers <lO4 of them apprentices) and storemen, 179 loaders, and 1062 administrative. clerical and traffic employees.
Viscount Aircraft had the best annual utilisation record, an average of 2417 hours, followed by: Friendship. 2029 hours; DC3 passenger, 1813 hours: DC3 freighter, 1502; Dominie, 870 hours.
The destruction of the corporation's head office in the Aotea quay Are of July. 1961. caused indirect losses of "at least £25.000." Increased costs incurred for temporary accommodation, staff overtime and other emergency measures amounted to at least £25,000.
