Avonside Drive

Sir, —I wish to ask the City Council if it is passible to have that neglected part of Avonside drive from Bracken street to Swanns bridge widened. There is nothing in the way but old willow stumps and a very untidy Drainage Board section. I inquired about the widening of it in August, 1926, and I was told it was on the estimates and the job would be done in a month or so. I forgive them if they forgot to tell me which year. With the volume of fast traffic on it today it certainly is a dangerous piece of road and should be looked into.—Yours, etc., WHICH YEAR?

August 10, 1962. [The City Engineer (Mr E. Somers) said: "No provision has been made on the estimates at any stage, even in 1926. for widening this piece of Avonside drive. The necessary land is not yet owned by the council. The desirability of the work is. however, well recognised, and it is hoped that the necessary widening will be carried out in the not too distant future.’’]
