AUSTRALIAN TEACHERS
Decision Not To Strike
(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Aug. 20
The Victorian State Secondary Teachers’ Association has decided not to strike over conditions in secondary schools, but it will press for a Royal Commission into State secondary education. Seventy per cent, of teachers voted in a ballot against stopping work for a day. The association secretary iMr J. N Harris) said the voting on both questions had shown widespread dissatisfaction among secondary school teachers. He said 50.000 children in State secondary schools were being taught by unqualified teachers, and more than 2000 of the 5400 secondary school teachers were not properly qualified.
