COMMITTED FOR TRIAL

Gerbhardt In Melbourne

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) MELBOURNE, Aug. 18. The German immigrant. Hans Kurt Gerbhardt, in the City Court yesterday, was committed for trial on a charge of having wounded the New Zealand hairdresser, Mr Joshua Liddel, with intent to murder, him.

He also faced charges involving the theft of cash, furs and other goods. Mr F. Hill, S.M., refused bail. Senior-Detective D. Baker said in Court that while being flown from Singapore to Melbourne, Gerbhardt admitted shooting Mr Liddel. He said Gerbhardt told him: "You want the man that shot a hairdresser. Well, you are sitting next to him." Senior-Detective Baker said Gerbhardt told him that while in Melbourne he had put furs from a city store in a suitcase and caught a train home. Then he remembered he left his bag at the hairdresser’s. He went back and picked up the bag and began to walk out. He did not know where the hairdresser came from and, not wanting to be caught, shot him twice. Gerbhardt said he put the gun in a case with some old clothes and put it into the sea. He made a big mistake, he said. He said he should have put a hole in it, as it floated away, Senior-Detec-tive Baker told the Court.
