AGED PERSONS’ GARDENS

More Assistance Planned

A scheme for the cleaning up of gardens for elderly people who cannot do work for themselves has undoubtedly assisted in keeping many old people in their homes, said the chairman of the finance committee of the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council (Mr W H. Larcombe) at the annual meeting of the council last evening. He said that since October the council had run a gardening service which required the services of a parttime gardener, a delivery van, a scythe and rotary hoe During this time 168 gardens had beep visited. “The service has proved worthwhile and has brought us into contact with a number of old folk who have required assistance in other ways,” said Mir Larcombe “In the coming year we hope to improve and extend this service.”
