INSPECTING THE DAMAGE.—Dr. N. Ostich, a Los Angeles physician, walking to the jet car, Flying Caduceus, after a front wheel had come off while the car was travelling at 331 miles an hour on the Bonneville Salt Fiats, Utah. Dr. Ostich had hoped to make an attempt on the world speed record of 394.2 miles an hour set by Sir John Cobb in 1947. The loss of the wheel and damage to the axle have ended his racing efforts for this year.
