HANDLING OF FOOD

Restrictions On Shoppers (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 15. The Minister of Health (Mr McKay) will investigate the possibility of introducing regulations banning food-handling by the public in food shops. He gave this assurance in Parliament to Mr H. L. J. May (Opposition, Onslow). Speaking during discussion of Health Department estimates. Mr May said it was possible in some places for the public to handle food in making' their .own selection This could mean contamination of food fibat another person might buy. It was not fair to demand a fair standard of hygiene from proprietors if the public was not silso prevented from handling food. Mr McKay’ said his department was well aware of the problem. It regularly conducted food-handling classes for both departmental and local authority inspectors.
