Israel Defends El Al Over Spy
The Israeli Government has issued a formal statement defending the refusal of the State airline El Al to obey a British “direction" last week to remove the American, Dr. Robert Soblen, convicted of spying for Russia, to the United States. Israel's jurisdiction over •him ended with his removal from Israel in an El Al airTimer on July 1, the statement said. Britain's move changing the “direction" to a deportation order had proved the correctness of the Israeli Government stand in the case, it claimed.
