BOXING Well-matched Opponents In B.H.S. Finals

The opponents in all eight bouts of the finals last evening of the Christchurch Boys’ High School boxing tournament were extremely well matched. There were some rousing bouts, a great deal of determination and enthusiasm and three *ery good boxers to entertain the crowd in the school assembly hall. P. B. Wareing and E. Moore provided the best bout of the evening in the under-7st final. Wareing deservedly won the trophy for the most scientific boxer. He hit carefully and eoolly with his left, punching hard and straight, and sought and found openings for his classic right cross. He varied his attack with left hooks and right rips to the body, and proved himself a boxer with an excellent temperament and knowledge of the sport. In the most rousing bout of the tournament, S. Jolly almost fought himself to a standstill with whirlwind attacks on W. Lee. Jolly attacked from bell to bell, and made up in quantity what his punches lacked in quality His opponent, W. Lee, fought back most courageously. In the final round, both boxers twice stopped, by mutual consent, and stood with gloves dangling on spent arms, drawing in fresh gulps of air before returning to the fray. In the under lost final, D. J. Brittenden fought tenaciously and ferociously against an opponent with a better guard and longer reach, T. Whale. Brittenden in the third round almost knocked himself out. He first collided with his opponent to hurt his head, and then ducked straight into a left hook to become so dazed that the bout was stopped. Trophies were presented as
