PAPANUI SCHOOL CONCERT

Bright And Varied Programme

Bright and varied entertainment was presented by the pupils of the Papanui High School at their annual concert in the school assembly hall last evening. The concert opened with the school orchestra conducted by Mr P. Rowe, playing six numbers, the best of which was a Handel fantasia for piano and strings, the piano soloist being Miss M Johnson. The third form choir sang an arrangement of “Jenny Jenkins,” by the New Zealand composer. Ashley Heenan, and a brass quartet played “Dear Is My Little Native Vale.” by Hollongworth.

The senior choir sang “Gwine to Ride Up in the Chariot,” arranged by M Jacobson. Another song enjoyed by the audience was “Grandfather's Clock.” and a piano duet by Misses M. Johnson and C. Kendrew was well received.

A colourful presentation of a ballet. “The Fairy Doll.” had its humour in the form of a rotund and clumsy teddybear.

Nine boys gave a spectacular judo display. It ended with a very small boy fighting three opponents, and winning. The school band, conducted by Mr R. Young, played five items, and a piano accordion solo, a one-act play, a Maori stick game, and, a magician completed the programme.
