ST. ANDREW’S COLLEGE
Hall Planned For Jubilee
An assembly hall-gymna-sium is being planned to mark the jubilee of St. Andrew's College, which will be celebrated in March, 1966
The college old boys' association and the ParentTeacher Association are joining to raise £19.000 tor the project. It is planned to start construction in 1965 so that the building can be opened at the time of the celebrations.
St. Andrew’s College has an assembly hall but it is now inadequate for even school functions. An assembly hall proper is proposed in the long-term building programme. The jubilee block will be designed as a gymnasium but will be suitable to serve also as an assembly hall until the hall proper is available
The jubilee hall and gymnasium will provide for all indoor sports (including basketball) and physical training and incorporate a stage, projection room, kitchen. and ,other facilities. It will be used for assemblies, receptions for visitors, concerts, films, dances, and social evenings The new hall will be built on the south side of the swimming pool (near Normans roadi with space set aside for changing rooms at the western end of the hall. It is hoped that sufficient funds will -be raised in the appeal to include this extension in the jubilee project. Mrs Margaret Munro has been appointed architect. Her husband (the late Mr R. C. Munro) designed the college’s memorial chapel. In announcing the appeal, the sponsoring associations have drawn the attention of their members to the Government's recent decision to exempt from income tax. gifts to building funds of up to £25 a year. It is suggested that there is time for four annual contributions during the appeal.
