(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Aug. 13. The first of the new season's asparagus—about 131 b of it—arrived at the Wellington markets today, a month early. It came from Hawke’s Bay and was sold at 3s 2d for a 6oz bunch, the equivalent of just under 8s 6d per Ib.

Peak Conquered—A party of climbers led by the famous French alpinist and Chamonix guide, Lionel Terray, has reached the summit of 19,686 ft Chacraraju East, the last unclimbed peak in the Peruvian Andes. It was long considered unclimbable. (lama, August 11.)
