GUILTY OF THEFT
Verdict At New Trial (N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE. Aug 13. A Supreme Court jury, after an hour’s deliberation this afternoon, returned a verdict of guilty of theft against James Edward Stephenson, aged 36. a foreman pipe-fitter, of Kawerau The accused stood his second trial today before Mr Justice Hutchison after a disagreement by the jury in his trial Last week. Stephenson had pleaded not guilty to charges of breaking and entering a hove with intent to commit a crime between June 19 and July 19, and stealing furnishings valued at £7O; receiving goods dishonestly obtained between June iff and July 20 The jury returned a verdict of not guilty on the other two charges. Accused was remanded till Thursday tor sentence.
