MARIE BRIZARD DEAD
1960 Auckland Cup Winner "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, Aug. 13. The death has occurred on a farm near Te Aroha of the fine race mare Marie Brizard She slipped twins to Pharatnond and died on Sunday night. Marie Brizard was bred and raced by the estate of the late Mr C. G. Mclndoe. She was by Gabador from Quill. She began racing as a three-year-old in the 1957-58 season, during which she had 19 starts for seven wins, eight seconds, one third and one fourth. Her only unplaced start that term was her first. Among her wins that season were the Ohinemuri Cup at Paeroa. the Kerries Memorial at Tauranga and the Te Aroha Handicap. As a three-year-old she was topweight filly in the Free Handicap. As a four-year-old Marie Brizard had 13 starts for two wins and five minor placings The successes were the Easter Handicap and ttie H. O. Nolan Handicap at Ellerslie. She reached the peak of her career when she won the Auckland Cup on January 1. 1960. She had only eight races after that and was then retired.
During her short career Marie Brizard earned £19.080 from ten wins and 23 minor placings. She has Left one live foal, a filly weanling by Aatzaeus.
