Sportsman's Notebook Caltex Golf Tournament At Paraparaumu

The Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club has completed arrangements for the annual Caltex golf tournament to be held on the Paraparaumu course on October 18. 19. and 20. Cash prizes, provided by the sponsor, total more than £l4OO, with £350 for the winner. £250 for the runnerup, and £2OO for third. Two special prizes will be awarded to New Zealand professionals £5O for the best gross score and £3O for the second-best gross score

Last year, R. J Charles with a gross of 289 for the four rounds, made history by winning the first prize of £350. as well as £5O for the best gross by a New Zealand professional. The Paraparaumu Club is providing trophies for the four amateurs returning the best gross scores. J. D Durry, with 300. returned the best amateur score last year and in the complete listings was fourth, one stroke behind Australian professional P. W Thomson.

The three professionals who led last year's field. Charles < 2891 K. Nagle (293 >. and Thomson i 299» have announced that they will play in this year's tournament. It is almost certain that J Nicklaus. the young American will also play.
