Cricket LARTER FOR LAST TEST
Six Changes In M.C.C. Side (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, August 12 The English selectors today made six changes in the team to meet Pakistan in the final test at the Oval starting on Thursday, compared with the side which played in the drawn fourth test at Nottingham. The selectors are giving an opportunity • to players already chosen to. tour Australia this winter who have not played recently for England. There is only one new cap. the fast bowler, J. D. F. Latter. The team is:— E. R. Dexter (captain). M. C, Cowdrey. D. S. Sheppard, K. F. Barrington, B. R. Knight, J. T. Murray, R. Illingworth, D. A. Allen. J. D. F. Larter, L. J. Coldwell, and P. H. Parfitt. The selectors said P. H Pullar was not considered because, being injured, he was doubtful. Only Dexter, Sheppard, Parfitt. Knight, and Murray retain their places. Those who stand down are Pullar. T. W. Graveney. F. J. Titmus, G’. A. R. Lock. F. S. Trueman and J. B. Statham. The Press Association cricket writer said some people would regret that room had not been found for Alan Smith, the Warwickshire wicket-keeper. This meant he would be the only member of the M.C.C. Australian team who had not yet appeared for his country.
Larter is to have a minor operation for varicose veins in his legs before the Australian tour.
