(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 13. A special "banana express” carrying the first consignment of bananas from Auckland to the South Island by the rail-road ferry Aramoana pulled out of the Auckland railway yards at 10.15 tonight. The 4200 cases of fruit in 11 insulated waggons will arrive in Wellington early on Wednesday morning. The rake of waggons will be unloaded at Picton the same day and hitched to an express goods train for Christchurch. Some of the bananas should be on sale on the Christchurch market on Thursday morning and the rest are scheduled to reach Dunedin and Invercargill the next day. A fleet of 22 trucks ran a shuttle service for two hours tonight to carry the bananas from the Matus to the waggons. They also brought a further 3350 cases of bananas for loading Into eight waggons for Wellington and Nelson. Ban On Liquor Urged
(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON N„ Aug. 13. The Central District* Association of Baptist Churches, meeting in Palmerston North yesterday expressed hope that the Railways Department would reconsider it* decision to sell liquor on the inter-island rail ferry Aramoana.
