Council Request Supported
"The people have been let down," said Mr J. B. Collett, the Mayor of Lyttelton, when he urged the Chr is tchu re h -LytteHon R oad Tunnel Authority to support the Lyttsjltcn Borough Council's efforts to have the new road above tihe Lyttelton tunnel portal completed as soon as possible. The work was part of the contractors' responsibility, Mr Collett said. It was in a really bad state and residents were complaining, with every justification. The Ministry of Works had been asked last month to take uo the matter, said the secretary (Mr F. G. K. Gilchrist). The chairman (Mr R. A. Witbrock) said the general manager (Mr L H. Wilson) would endeavour to speed up the work.
