Use Of Drugs In Feed There was great competition among American farmers to be the first to use new methods which would give even a small increase in production. Dr. Walther H. Ott, director of animal husbandry of the Merck Institute for Therapeutic Research, at Rahway. New Jersey. said yesterday. Dr. Ott is visiting New Zealand on his way to Sydney, where he will give a paper at the twelfth world poultry congress. To a farmer producing on a large scale a small increase in production was a significant gain and an advantage over his competitor*. As long as a method or a compound was safe, they were keen to use it, Dr. Ott said Dr. Ott will review in his paper the safety and efficacy of a new drug, amproliuin, which is added to poultry feed to prevent coccidosis. Although a specialist in poultry, he is also interested in sheep, cattle, and pigs, and has worked on another compound. thiabendazole, which is now becoming available in Australia for controlling parasite worms in sheep.
