MAGISTRATES COURT
WEDNESDAY (Before Mr E. A. Lee, S.M.) FINED £4 Hearing a shot, an honorary ranger of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Societywatched one of his decoys jump six inches out of the water and another fall over, the Magistrate was told. Charged with committing a breach of the Wildlife Act by shooting ducks not in flight at Sockburn on May 31. George Timms, who did not appear, was fined £4. Mr B. McClelland prosecuted for the society. The honorary ranger, Clarence Brown, said he watched Timms stalking along a fence before the shots were fired. Questioned later. Timms said he saw the ducks and thought he would go home and get his gun. Mr McClelland: Do you think he thought the ducks were real?
The witness: He must have, because he went home to get his gun to have a crack at them.
Victor • Henderson, senior field officer of the society, said he interviewed Timms at the lower Selwyn huts. Timms admitted shooting at the decoys. REMANDED
Charged with receiving, on June 13 and July 9, Nicholas Albert Gay- was remanded on bail to August 29.
