Minister’s Car Only Cargo
(N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM. August 8. The only “freight” to be carried by the road and rail ferry Aramoana when she makes her first official visit to Picton on Saturday to inaugurate the new Cook Strait service will be a ministerial car. In it, the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) wfll drive off the ship to cut a ribbon at the Picton end of the crossing The General Manager of Railways (Mr A T Gandelb was asked today if it was intended to bring railway rolling stock over in the ship He said they had thought of “bringing a diesel engine or two” over on the crossing, but had then considered that with so many people about this could be dangerous
