August 6 ‘’Over 100 members of the Wanganui Drivers’ Union met yesterday to discuss the dissatisfaction in the industry with the comparatively low wages in the section covered by the lorry drivers’ and machine operators’ award." said the president, Mr D G. Gray, in a statement today. At the extraordinary general meeting, the members decided to co-operate with other drivers' unions in the country in holding a stopwork meeting a-t 8 a.m. on August 28. if the national council of the Drivers' Federation considers it necessarv, the statement said. "Figures produced at the meeting show that these drivers' wages have steadilv lost ground for the last 19 years and they are now up to 30s a week below those in comparable occupations.” M- Gray said Similar union meetings to discuss the break down in conciliation proceedings would be held in other centres
