Caretaking In Schools
Sir, —I was surprised to see in an article on caretaking in; the primary schools your claim to quote the North Can. terbury Headmasters’ Association. Several months ago this association did set up a sub-committee to examine this matter and a report has been written. AU headmasters have a copy of the draft, but it has not yet been tabled at a general meeting. This is to be done at our next meeting where the report will be subject to possible modification. The report as quoted by you is pot yet tabled, discussed, or approved and is therefore not necessarily, the considered opinion of the association. No-one had any authority to give any part of it to a newspaper, and this should not have occurred. I find it surprising, and somewhat disturbing, that this material should have been published, without anyone taking the trouble to check with the association’s executive.—Yours, etc., C. O. D. ROBERTS, President. North Canterbury Headmasters' Association. August 5. 1962. [We received this informa-' tion from a reliable source and were not : aware that the report had; not then been approved; by the Headmasters’ .As*, sociation.—Ed., “Thei Press.”]
