Nagle’s 67 Breaks Course Record
(N.Z.P A -Reuter—Copyright) ST. ANNES (Lancashire), August 3. R. J. Charles, of New Zealand, dropped away with a second round of 73 while K. Nagle, of Australia, a fellow overnight leader, forged ahead to lead by two Strokes at the half-way mark of the Carling-Lancastrian golf tournament yesterday. Nagle broke the day-old course record to score a 67. and his 36 holes total of 135 was six ahead of Charles.
Three British players, B. Bamford,; L. Platts, arfo P Butler, shared second place on 137, while H. Weetman and D. J. Reas, the Ryder Cup golfers, were a further stroke back. Butler equalled Nagle's course record. Nagle played calm, unruffled golf ' He reeled off tire first four holes in par figures, and was unperturbed when a weak chip cost him a five at the fifth. He rolled down fine putts an the next three greens to be out in 34 Attacked the Hole
He attacked the boJe with every stroke and his reward came with further single putts of sft, 29ft, and Bft - respectively for threes at the tenth, thirteenth, and fifteenth holes in his return half of 33. G. A. Hunt, of Britain, had the best score of the week with 66 at Fairhaven, the second course used. . Leading qualifiers (British players unless otherwise specified) were:— 135—K.
