Mr C. L. Spencer, the Commissioner of Police, will attend toe thirty-first session of toe general assembly of Interpol in Madrid next month. On his two-months' tour he will visit selected cities in the United States and in England he will study the police systems in Liverpool and London —PA. Messrs S. S. P. Hamilton, officer for special education, and H. A. Reeves, senior inspector of post-primary schools, both of Wellington will leave for America on August 26. They have been awarded educational and travel grants by the United States Educational Foundation. The awards will give the men the opportunity of spending six months in the United States observing various aspects of education.— (P.A.)
Mr W Kilroy, who was appointed general secretary of the Sanitarium Health Food Company for Australia and New Zealand at the fortyninth genera) conference of Seventh-Day Adventists in San Francisco, comes from Christchurch He was educated at Sydenham School and Christchurch Technical College, and began in the company's Papanui factory Later he held managerial positions in New Zealand and Australia. He is now senior officer in the South Pacific Mr G. T. Scott was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of toe Supreme Court by Mr Justice Macarthur yesterday, on toe motion of Mr R.. H. Brown, of Rangiora. f Mr C. T. Dougherty, a graduate of Lincoln College, has been awarded a Ful. bright travel grant to enable him to go to toe United States to study at Purdue University in Lafayette. Indiana, for a doctorate of philosophy. He will leave for the United States later this month and expects to be away from New Zealand fur two to three years. Mr E. M. H. Kemp has been appointed a member of the Local Authorities Loans Board. Mr Kemp is Mayor of Tawa Flat and a vice-presi-dent of the Municipal Association. He replaces Mr R E. Slacke. of Upper Hutt, who has resigned.— (P.A.) Messrs J. Andrew, P. J. Scott. D. H. Cockburn, and C. F. Jones, all members of the Meat Board, left for Sydney yesterday to study production developments in Australia and meet the Australian Meat Board.
