Wattie-Unilever Merger Denied

Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 2. ! Merger talks between J. Wattie Canneries, Ltd., and the! Unilever organisation, which owns Bird’s Eye Foods in! New Zealand, were denied today by Mr J. Wattie. “There’s absolutely no truth in it,” Mr Wattie said at Whenuapai on his return from a business trip to London. “It’s the first time I’ve heard of any merger. If there was anything in it I’d be the first to know.” An investment journal published in Wellington stated in its current issue that negotiations bgtween Unilever and the Wattie company had definitely started but had not yet reached an advanced stage.
