HONG KONG. July 18
Members of the New Zealand Meat Board said today that China offered big market potentials for the Dominion’s meat, and exporters were ready at any time to “talk business.”
Mr L. A Sherriff. the board’s deputy chairman and Mr A B Baker, a Government member, told a conference in Hong Kong that there had been trade contacts “New Zealand will sell to
any country that wishes to buy meat.” they said
Mr Sherriff will leave tomorrow for the Philippines on a promotional visit, and Mr Baker will go to Japan
The two members said New Zealand was airlifting fresh meat to Hong Kong in an initial effort to expand the market.
The meat was being sold to leading restaurants and hotels The response had been good although prices compared with those for Australian meat of the same quality. were “a shade hard"
They said the Japanese aversion to mutton had been overcome and they hoped to accomplish the same thing in Hong Kong The Meat Board representative in the area (Mr J A Malcolm) said he had been to China for the spring trade fair at Canton but there had been no trade talks on meat
