Output Rises £lni In Year

The value of the output of the pulp and paper industry hose £1 million in 1961-62, says a report from the Department. of Statistics. Output was valued at £lB.l million compared with £17.1 million the previous year.

The number erf persons engaged in the industry rose from 2171 to 2512. Major items in the £lB.l million worth of products were wood pulp £3.1 miffion, paperboard £32 million, fibreboard £l.B million, newsprint £5.2 million, and other paper £4.7 million.

Pulp production increased considerably from 261,000 tons to 276.000 tons. Exports of wood pulp during the calendar year 1961 were 63.600 tons, valued at £2.5 million. Most of this went to Australia. which took 48,000 tons.
