TENNIS SHOCKS FOR CUP MEN
U.S. Players Defeated
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CHICAGO, July 18. Half of the United State’s Davis Cup team was eliminated in the first round of the national elay court tennis tournament yesterday.
N. Belkin, a 17-year-old student, defeated the No. 2 seed. W. Reed. 6-4, 3-6, 6-3; D. Dell, a finalist last year, was beaten b.y R. Senkowski. 6-2, 6-3, while D. Ralston was beaten 3-6, 7-5. 6-2. by F. Godbout, of Canada. He had beaten Godbout in the American zone Davis Cup tie last week-end.
Another upset was the defeat of Miss B. J. Moffitt, who defeated Miss M. Smith (Australia) in the Wimbledon championship. She was defeated by her Los Angeles State College friend. Miss C. A. Loop, 2-6, 9-7, 8-6.
