River Search Fruitless

It is almost certain that the missing deerstalker, Lyle Bryan, aged 22. of Christchurch, was drowned while attempting to cross the Haast river on Saturday evening. .

An extensive but fruitless search of the river was made today The search leader, Sergeant T. Thomson, said today that it was almost certain that Bryan had "drowned. This morning an extensive search of the river, and the areas of shingle flats in the riverbed was made by five policemen and 12 Ministry of Works employees A Ministry of Works jet boat was also used to search the river for the body A West Coast Airways aircraft on a scheduled flight from Hokitika to Haast made a half-hour search of the river and beach area, but no sign of the body was seen.
