(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, July 10. The hand of friendship extended by the GovernorGeneral (Lord Cobham) to the police dog, Miska, at the Police Training School at Tresntham this morning was greeted with a deep growl and a sudden snap. “I’m not an escaper,” said Lord Cobham. The director of the school. Inspector E. J. Hotham, took the Goveirnor-General on an inspection of the cadets, police and dog unit and welcomed Lord Cobham to the school, “Always remember this, that once a police force has forfeited the trust of the public its job becomes harder,” said Lord Cobham, addressing the school. “Police enjoy loyalty and respect in this country from lawabiding people.”
As Governor-General he had been rendered good service by the police in New Zealand, “ and I would like to place on record my appreciation,” he said.
