RECOVERED CAR
Wilder May Be Further North (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. July 10. Police recovered a white Jaguar car and tvjp safes near Taumarunui today. The car may have been taken frorh Wellington by the escaped New Plymouth prisoner, George Wilder. Wellington police had been waiting for news of the car while conducting a search in the Wellington area for Wilder. The car disappeared from Wellington on Friday night. Taumarunui police found the car bogged down at the end of a no-exit road known as Quarry road, which branches off the TaumarunuiTokaanu highway about 10 miles from Taumarunui. Both the safes, which contained between them about £2OO, had been hacked open. They were stolen early on Monday from W. M. Macferson. Ltd., and Graham Taylor’s Motors, Ltd., both of Manunui. An attempt was made to force a petrol pump at another garage. Another car is reported missing from Pungapunga road, Manunui, not far from where the Wellington vehicle was recovered. The missing car is a Vauxhall Velox, owned by Mr J. H. Oliphant. Wilder escaped from the New Plymouth prison in May.
