SHAKESPEAREAN POSTERS
Schools’ Contest Prize-Winners
An exceptionally high standard in the Christchurch Festival of Shakespeare schools' poster competition was noted by the judges, who announced the winners yesterday. There were three sections for the three productions: “The Tempest," “Macbeth." and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
J. Whitley, of Cashmere High School, won first prize for his poster for “Macbeth” with Jenny Henderson (St. Margaret’s College) second and Geoffrey Rice (Linwood High School) third. For “The Tempest,” Christopher Williams (Papanui High School) won first prize and Roderick Spence of the same school, came second. Anabelle Edwards and Louise Taylor (Rangi-ruru) were first and second respectively for their posters for "A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
The judges were Mr W. Sutton, of the Canterbury University School of Fine Arts, and Mr McGahey, of the art department of Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd. The prizes were given by the firm. The competition was organised by the Festival of Shakespeare committee, which was made up of representatives from the Christchurch Repertory Theatre Society, the Canterbury University Drama Society, and the British Drama League Schools’ Company.
The three plays will be presented by these organisations during the festival.
