MENTAL HEALTH
Importance Of Early Years
The most critical years in a child's life were from a little after birth to the age of about six. said the chairman of the Auckland Association for Mental Health (Dr H R Bennett) last evening Dr. Bennett, who is also senior medical officer. at Kingseat Hospital. Auckland, was speaking to a meeting in the St. John's Church Hall, Latimer square The meeting was the first of a series of four to be held in city church halls in the next four months. The meetings are arranged by the Canterbury Association for Mental Health. Probably the most important oi all factors in the formation of an individual was the relationship between the child and the family Bad relationships could lead to anxieties and tensions, said Dr. Bennett. Children learnt to do many things by imitating their parents, therefore it was important that the parents were stable persons. "The roots of mental ill-health are for the most part to be found in the early years,’’ Dr. Bennett said.
