The crew of Everyman II saw the lights of the mysterious vessel, as did the Ironwood. The Ironwood thought the ship was the Matagorda and received an answer to a challenge Later it was found the Matagorda was 90 miles away at the time. The mystery ship was last seen heading into the test zone.
