Firms Applying 5% Increase (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 5 Retail paint prices are being increased by about 5 per cent. Some firms have already applied the increase. General increases in the cost of manufacture are given as reasons for the rise The cost of linseed oil and containers is claimed to be well above the world average. Other ingredients are comparably costly. “We have not made the step yet. but must be forced into it," one executive officer said "Our prices have remained relatively stable over the last three to four years though there have been slight increases. We cannot continue- to carry the increased costs." Officials of the manufacturers' organisation were non-committal about intentions They said the paint industry was highly-competi-tive. and that so far. no more than one-third of the manufacturers had increased prices
