RABBIT BOARD CONTROL
Total Coverage Wanted Total coverage by rabbit boards in the South Island was called for in a remit which was passed unanimously by the conference of the South Island Rabbit Boards’ Association yesterday. A telegram was to be sent to the. Minister of Agriculture from the conference emphasising the urgency of the matter. The president (Mr C. C. S. Parker) said coverage was needed over five to six million acres of land. The remit had been passed by the conferences over the last seven or eight years and four successive Ministers had been interviewed in the last two and a half years. “Sooner or later there will be a first-class row if something isn't done,” he said.
Control Of Opossums A remit opposing farmer contribution to opossum control and asking for complete Government financing of work by rabbit boards was lost at the conference of the South Island Rabbit Boards’ Association yesterday. This remit was put forward by the North Canterbury Rabbit Board’s Council. A further remit calling for research into opossum control in the South Island was carried. It was said that species of trees attacked by opossums in the North Island were not affected in the South Island.
