CONFERENCE ON RABBITS
190 Delegates Attend “The next 10 years of our work will be extremely vital.’’ said Mr C. C. S. Parker, chairman of the South Island Rabbit Boards’ Association, in his report to the annual conference in Christchurch yesterday. About 190 delegates from 'the 133 South Island Rabbit Boards, members o£ the district councils, members of (the Rabbit Destruction Council and the president of the North Island association (Mr J. G. Reeves) are attending the two-day conference which will continue today. Mr Parker said that a research officer had been appointed to further the work in rabbit destruction and to do research in the field. The officer will be stationed at Taieri. Explaining the Rabbit Destruction Council’s attitude towards assistance for boards in appeals against rating, the chairman (Mr G. B. Baker) said each case was considered on its merits. There were two aspects to be taken into account—whether the issue was of national importance and whether the board had sufficient funds to avoid hardship or inconvenience. The conference of the association will probably be held in Queenstown next year on July 3.
