N.Z. "Not So Happy” About Royal Tour

(At.Z Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, June 23. The man in the street in New Zealand was “not so happy” about next year’s Royal tour, the London “Evening News” reported today.

A report from the newspaper's Wellington correspondent said that political and diplomatic circles in Wei. lington "welcomed the announcement of the Royai Tour”

The correspondent added “People I interviewed today sa d the tour is designed to soften the blow of Britain’s expected decision to join the Common Market." AU those he interviewed were of the opinion that the announcement of the tour was “a strong sign that Mr Macmillan will announce Britain’s decision to join the Common Market when the Commonwealth Prime Ministers meet in September.” The correspondent said eynics were already dubbing the tour “the farewell tour." The “Evening News" added, in a report from its Svdney correspondent Simon Galvin: “Because she is the Queen and because the people of Australia are dying to see her again, she is assured of a tremendous welcome “But underlying the cheers will be an undercurrent of

resentment: not against Her Majesty, but against the Mother country.

“The bitterness over the Common Market has marred the normal reaction to the announcement of this brief Royal visit." February 10 Arrival? According to the Canberra correspondent of the "Melbourne Herald." the Queen will reach Canberra on February 10 by air. She would be met by the GovernorGeneral. Lord De L’lsle, and the Federal Cabinet. “This is provided in a provisional programme, still subject to confirmation.” the correspondent said "If February 10 is confirmed. the Queen will open Parliament probably on February 12 or 13 and spend most of that week in Canberra “She will spend about three or four days in each State She is expected to return to Canberra in time for the anniversary celebration on March 12 and to leave Canberra for London the following day or March 14.”
